You can apply for Croatian dual citizenship - and I can help you through the process.
From finding out if you are eligible through your Croatian ancestors, to requesting and certifying all the required records from many different government agencies, to making sure that you walk into your citizenship appointment with a robust, accurate application, I want to give you every chance to regain your Croatian citizenship.
I am a consultant and lawyer who can work with you to prepare your application for citizenship by descent. With years of legal expertise, experience submitting successful applications (including my own and my family's!), and a US-based practice, I'm excited to help you start your dual citizenship application today.

Yes! If you have a spouse or children who would like to also apply for Croatian dual citizenship by descent, it's best to apply together to streamline your paperwork and minimize the time you all wait until you are accepted.
If you have minor children, you and your children can apply on the same application, and use the same paperwork (plus their own identifying documents).
If your spouse would like to apply, they can submit a separate application at the same time you submit your own application, and rely on the same ancestry documents.
If your adult children would like to apply, they can also submit a separate application, and the family group can make sure to request multiple copies of all the necessary ancestry records.
You will want to be certain that you have or can obtain all the birth and marriage records from each generation linking you to your Croatian ancestor.
You will then need to contact the consulate that has jurisdiction over your place of residence (see a list of all U.S. and Canadian consulates) and schedule an appointment - you will want to make sure it's at least six months away, but note that some consulates have a significant backlog of pending citizenship appointments and may be scheduling new applicants over a year out.
Once you have an appointment to submit your application at the consulate, it's time to start collecting your own records and background check, and begin the process of having each apostilled and translated.

The process can vary widely from start to finish, depending on how quickly you can obtain the documents you need and on the workload of each consulate and the Ministry of Interior. Generally, you will want to allow at least six months to gather paperwork before your appointment to submit your citizenship application at the consulate. Once the consulate accepts your paperwork, expect up to 2 years until you receive a positive response.
It's rare to hear any news or updates after you submit until you receive a decision, unless the Ministry needs you to amend or correct some part of your application. No news is good news!
Absolutely! This service provides guidance and peace of mind for those who don't want to manage this often complicated process on their own, or don't have the time or desire to handle the substantial paperwork involved. For applicants who feel comfortable largely handling their own dual citizenship application, I can provide tailored assistance on specific parts of the application process.
Yes! My experience is primarily with Croatian citizenship applications, but I have also worked on applications for citizenship by descent for Italy and Portugal. Citizenship by descent laws in different countries have many similarities, and I have experience with genealogical research across Europe.
